How does a POS System work?

A POS System is not a separate device – it is a set-up of devices that together ensure an efficient and easy checkout process. The set-up can of course vary enormously, depending on your brand choice, which payment methods you accept, whether you print paper receipts and how you do your accounting. Let’s go back to basics and talk about how customer payments are processed, what a POS System consists of and a number of options. Checkout systems then and now About 30 years ago, a POS system was not much more than a cash register. The first POS Systems did not even “know” what a product cost. The cashier then had to manually enter the prices per product. Then the cashier put the money in the cash drawer and gave the customer a receipt. In some cases, this receipt was the only evidence that the transaction ever took place. As POS System became more modern, more software was introduced. Products were stored on a database and barcodes were introduced, so that prices no longer had to be entered manually. The sales history was also recorded later. Today, POS systems are much more extensive. Some entrepreneurs still use checkouts as described above, but many have switched to advanced checkout systems that keep track of everything online. Most important parts of a POS System Modern POS systems consist of hardware and software. Software is the part that records, processes and stores transactions. There are many different ways in which POS systems do this. Software All modern POS Software has a POS System for control and a data system for the underlying sales history and settings. The staff uses the POS System, usually a touch screen or tablet, to process payments. The data system can be viewed via the internet or an app. Whichever POS System you use, these two systems...

News on the Territory of the Net

Once upon a time, we had an online territory without borders. People staked their claim and put things in their spaces that needed safekeeping. They created passwords and verification locks. The territory grew at such a speed, however – with highwayman lurking to steal bounty wherever they could – that order had to be made of the chaos. Rules and regulations came into force and Know Your Customer (KYC) came to send anonymity on its way. In this new virtual world, we must be brave if we want to make the most of it. Being informed, however, should stop bravery from becoming stupidity. Here are five points any net rider needs to know in 2019, even if you don’t need help managing your security. Net Neutrality The free and equal access to the internet – which Net Neutrality means – might be shifting out of existence completely. The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) of the USA has attempted to repeal net neutrality regulations. If the landscape of the internet is no longer neutral, it will soon become as cut up and cornered as the Earth itself. Like cultures that spread across borders, so do zones of the internet. However, your geographical location and the investment your country has made into infrastructure – and its laws that permit certain usage – determine what experience you have in this vast virtual world. Internet Service Providers (ISPs) function to provide end users with access to the internet. They have the advantage of determining content packages, the speed of your service, and the pricing thereof. With neutrality being phased out, costs of being online will be set to rise. Furthermore, private providers must work within the boundaries set by the government of that country, but your data could be held in servers around the globe....
  • Microsoft is again getting out of the consumer space by shutting down Microsoft HealthVault and focusing their health efforts more on the enterprise side. Microsoft emailed out information about the HealthVault shut down to users saying “The Microsoft HealthVault service will be shut down as of November 20, 2019. Data you have in your HealthVault account will be deleted effective November 20, 2019. If you wish to keep the data in your account, you need to take action now to transfer that data from your HealthVault account.” Microsoft has suggested users who want to keep using HealthVault like services to migrate their data to other personal health record services like Get Real Health and FollowMyHealth. HealthVault was initially started with the mission of allowing patients to collect their own data with heavy hitter partners including the American Heart Association, Johnson & Johnson and Allscripts and Walgreens. Microsoft struggled with creating a sustainable business model around HealthVault and integrations with companies like Fitbit were abandoned over the years. Microsoft HealthVault did not fail on its own Google Health was launched in 2008 and ended three years later because of low user adoption. Google even went as far as to suggest HealthVault as an option when their service shutdown. Since its launch in 2018, Apple Health Records system has signed up more than 140 providers and health system partners and recently struck a deal with the VA to provide personal health records for veterans. I think with the success of Apple Health and Apple Watch its safe to say Apple will probably get this market as Microsoft Band is dead and Google Wear OS has had little to no adoption in recent years.
  • ACO get formed by a group of health care providers which are hospitals, physicians, and others who come together to provide quality health care service to the patients. The main goal of the group is to provide the right care at the right time and save the money of the patients. They enable better coordination with the patients reducing the medical errors. The fundamental state of the US health system has changed over the past 30 years. Before catastrophic cases such as accidents, epidemic were driving the health care services, but now lifestyle and chronic diseases are the driving forces. Chronic diseases need long-term care and can even prove expensive for patients. ACO makes the process easier as they help the patients to become healthy with proper planning and in a short time. As per a report, patients with complex care needs account for almost one-fifth of the total health care spending although they compromise only 1% of the patient’s numbers. The accountable care organization (ACO) have the comprehensive management process which aligns the programs at the right place for managing the complex health care needs. ACOs now operate in all the 50 US states and assist the health care providers in providing better care to the patients. They are known for deploying health care management programs that take evidence-based strategies for delivering the right care to the patients. These evidence-based strategies are: Identification of the people who are at great risk for the unfavorable clinical conditions. Segregating the high-risk group of patients into different subgroups with the same needs. Engaging families and individuals in care decisions. Implementing programs that assist patients in addressing chronic illness. ACOs improves clinical proficiency and patient engagement by reducing costs. Some of the effective methods are: Implementation of best practices: Health care organizations check...

  • Everywhere we go, people have something plugged in their ears. Ranging from huge headphones to colorful earpieces. With innovation in the tech sector, Bluetooth earpieces showed up on the market scene and they have been hugely popular since then. With Bluetooth earpieces, you can talk and listen without the burden of wires strapped on your device. This article works you through to help you not only understand how Bluetooth earpieces work but to also make sense of why you should use one to maximize your work productivity. How Does Bluetooth Earpieces Work?   Bluetooth earpieces work by transmitting infrared signals or radio signals. They connect or pair with the device you want to use it for. Usually, they are used for phones, laptops, gaming systems, and even TVs. A caveat though, all of these devices must be Bluetooth enabled for the pairing to take place (Don’t be discouraged though, you can get a Bluetooth transmitter if your device isn’t Bluetooth enabled). The devices you’re connecting them to must also be in close proximity to each other. Most Bluetooth earpieces have ranges of about 30ft. Having discussed that, let’s go on to talk about the reasons for why you should use the device to work more with comfort. Flexibility It allows users the freedom to do other tasks while listening to their favorite tracks anywhere in the house without blasting the stereo and getting noise complaints from neighbors. You could be in the laundry room and still be connected to your device, listening to your new playlist while you do your long overdue laundry or you could be in the kitchen while your device is in the bedroom but your Bluetooth enabled earpiece is still churning out tracks. Drivers can now take calls without literally taking their eyes off the road. Say...
  • While Slack has supported Azure Active Directory previously today Slack announced on their blog support for Microsoft’s Office 365 apps like Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneDrive and Outlook. Slacks new integration with Office apps and files, includes a new Outlook calendar and mail app, an updated OneDrive app, and the ability to preview Office files directly in Slack. Slack and Microsoft have made a significant improvement to email space. Outlook mail integration, with the ability to bring emails straight into Slack channels, a new Outlook add-in and a new Outlook calendar app. The new Outlook calendar app for Slack brings in all your meetings and calendar invites into the messaging service along with meeting invites that arrive. The Outlook calendar app will even set your Slack status automatically based on your calendar, and it will add “out of office” to status if you’ve enabled it in Outlook. Slack is also enabling full previews of Office files like PowerPoint slides, Word documents, and Excel spreadsheets. New OneDrive improvements allow you to preview Office files without even opening them. Both Slack and Microsoft Teams have been going head-to-head to try to win over new customers but, in this case, bringing a new customer great customer experience is important to both Slack and Microsoft. Microsoft launched its free version of Teams to rival Slack, but I am not sure how good that is doing and maybe Microsoft see this as a better idea. I would like to see more Slack integration with OneNote sooner I am also interested to see if this is a space where Google might launch a messaging product.
