  • Microsoft Surface laptops are now eligible for “recommended” status in Consumer Reports’ ratings. Last year we removed that designation because of poor predicted reliability in comparison with laptops from other brands. Reliability evaluations are based on surveys of our members. We now have results from our latest survey. “Microsoft’s reliability is now on par with most other laptop brands,” allowing its products to be recommended, says Martin Lachter, senior research associate at Consumer Reports. This is the first year that brand reliability is being factored into the Overall Scores for many products rated by Consumer Reports. Owner satisfaction, which is based on the same survey of our members, is also being incorporated into the Overall Score. Consumer Reports

Microsoft Surface All In One Tablet

Recently I have been traveling a lot and I decided to use a Microsoft Surface tablet for everything instead of packing both my Microsoft Surface and my iPad. I have to say as great as both devices are I would like to share my findings of this experiment. I decided to buy a surface because of how thin and light the product is with a full keyboard and touchpad it made it easy for travel. I enjoy using the Microsoft Surface especially during the work day with typing and having the touchscreen and pen it is just amazing for what I do daily. The surface really helped my workflow all around I found myself more productive. Windows 10 with Office 365 and OneDrive worked seamlessly Microsoft really outdid themselves with Windows 10, Office 365 integration and OneDrive. Everything worked great despite some small issues but that’s for another post on another day. After the work day was over and I decided to relax at the hotel for a while and this is where I found myself as happy with the surface as I was during the work day. I decided to catch up on some TV the Windows 10 app support has come a long way I download the apps for Netflix, CW, and ABC and enjoyed the content. Since HBO has no app support for the Microsoft Store I had to open up chrome and had to type and enter my credentials to watch shows, that was a minor inconvenience. Since the screen was constantly lit I had to keep the device plugged in permanently after watching a few shows on the surface. I know part of that was me using chrome with Adblock to avoid all the ads on websites and Microsoft does recommend using Edge Browser for...
  • I decided today to upgrade my Windows 8.1 Microsoft Surface Gen 3 to Windows 10. I decided to document the process to this upgrade. The first thing I did was click the little Windows 10 bug in the right had corner system tray I then went threw the screen to upgrade after sitting looking at this screen for over an hour on a 100 meg connection this should have never taken an hour so I decided to go to Microsoft’s ISO site and download and install Windows 10 manually. After you download the tool a screen comes up asking if you want to upgrade this PC or create ISO I clicked on upgrade this PC. Then it starts downloading Windows 10 The next step it will start and say Creating Windows 10 Media Windows will then Check Your PC Before upgrading You will need to Accept The License Agreement Windows will then check for update one last time Windows will then make sure your ready Then Your Ready To Install!!!! Installing Windows 10 After The Install Choose Your Profile Pick Your Settings Enable Cortana If You Would Like Check Out Your Apps Windows 10 is installed and ready to use I would say my overall experience upgrading was fine. I was kind shocked when the Windows bug gave me a hard time but I just went the manual route. The Surface Pro is a Microsoft product so I expected the upgrade to go smooth but that is not always the case with Microsoft products. Overall good upgrade experience.

Microsoft Surface Pro Power Cord Recall

Microsoft revealed earlier this week that the company is recalling a number of power cords following overheating concerns. If you bought a Surface Pro, Surface Pro 2, or Surface Pro 3 in the US or Canada before March 15th then you can apply now for a free cord replacement. If you purchased a device outside of the US or Canada before July 15th then it’s also affected by the recall. Microsoft AC power cord recall for Surface Pro, Surface Pro 2, and certain Surface Pro 3 devices. Microsoft’s latest Surface Pro 4 is unaffected.  Microsoft only is replacing the AC power cord the removable cord that connects the power supply to an electrical outlet. Do not send power bricks themselves they are not being recalled.
