The iPhone X Is Not Innovative

We all know I am a large supporter of Apple products I have been a huge supporter of their PC and their iPhone for the last 10 years and was early adopted of their AirPods. I watch the Apple Keynote today in the new Steve Jobs theater at Apple’s new campus and was not impressed with any of their new innovations which were not really innovations but will catch on because of Apples following and clout in the smartphone industry. I would like to start with their new FaceID technology which is very cool but is not new to the marketplace. Windows Hello which does the exact same thing was released by Microsoft as part of Windows 10 in July of 2015. The difference is that Microsoft released it for the desktop since Microsoft has no mobile platform. Android was offering Face Unlock as early as 2012 on select Samsung phones. The iPhone offers the Edge to Edge display which again was already done by Samsung first with the Samsung Galaxy Note Edge first as early as November of 2014 and the Samsung Galaxy Edge in 2015. Apple announced wireless charging which again is nothing new to the mobile industry as Samsung and others have been doing this for a while but I do think by Apple doing it we will see wider spread adoption in the industry. I have to say as a lover of Apple AirPods I want one of the wireless charging cases. The one thing Apple has always done right is their cameras. Being able to capture slow motion film in higher definition and film in 4K is very cool but will defiantly require a good amount of storage. The duel optical image stabilization is great and is offered on the Galaxy Note 8 as well....

    Apple AirPods Review

I finally got my Apple AirPods which I ordered months ago and finally received. I have to say I am very impressed with the Apple AirPods. Apple is known for very tightly connected hardware and software and the Apple AirPods are no exception. I have to say I almost gave up on the Apple AirPods the 6 to 8 week turnaround time has been going on since January and looks to keep happening the long and short of it from Apple is the AirPods are so popular they can’t make them fast enough.  AirPods, which lists for $159 dollars on Apple site are really amazing and fit the Apple feeling of “it just works”. You take the AirPods out of their box, open up the lid to the case and a pop-up window appears from the bottom of your phone’s screen, asking if you want to connect your new AirPods you press the very large “Connect” button, and you’re done. The same worked for my MacBook Pro.  The AirPods after they are connected every time you take them out of the case and put the AirPods in your ears, a bright ding will let you know you’re connected to your phone. The AirPods feel great in my ears and I can leave them in for hours without any issue.   After testing many Bluetooth devices I got the best response and sound quality while on phone calls from AirPods. I can be honest my music sounds great but the Bluetooth SOL Republics has better sound quality but lacked very much in the phone department. I love using the AirPods for phone calls above all else. They’re the first Bluetooth headphones that sound as good as if I’m holding my phone to my ear. I think this great phone call capability is because of the dual-mic setup Apple is using. Apple also using noise-canceling tech that uses subtle vibrations to know you’re speaking. All together I think what Apple lacks in sound quality it makes up for by being one of the clearest remote-input devices I’ve ever used.  I make a lot of phone calls and really...

  • Apple announced today that their App Development platform Swift will now be offered in more than 30 community colleges across the country in the 2017-2018 school year. The curriculum for the Swift programming class was developed by engineers and educators at Apple. The course is a full year and teaches students how to build apps using Swift. Apple’s new programming language Swift was made open source in December of 2015. Apple has put a large emphasize on security with the Swift programming language along with performance and modern software design patterns. Apple CEO Tim Cook said the following in the post “We’ve seen firsthand how Apple’s app ecosystem has transformed the global economy, creating entire new industries and supporting millions of jobs,” “We believe passionately that same opportunity should be extended to everyone, and community colleges have a powerful reach into communities where education becomes the great equalizer.” Colleges adding the App Development with Swift curriculum is Austin Community College District, Northeast Mississippi Community College, Northwest Kansas Technical College and additional campuses in the Alabama Community College System. The post goes on to say “Apple’s app economy supports 1.5 million jobs in the United States. Last year, US software developers earned $5 billion through the App Store, a 40 percent increase over 2015. Since the App Store launched, Apple has paid out $16 billion to US developers, over one-quarter of total App Store earnings.” Great to see Apple supporting young developers and inspiring innovation. Apple is one of the big companies helping to make American jobs and support educating America.
  • This year marks the beginning of a fierce battle of smartphones. All the phone makers are set to compete valiantly and determined to win the war. Where iPhone claims to have introduced features and tech no device has ever seen or introduced, others too are coming up with strategies to eclipse the launching of the phone genie. Let’s have a look at what each company has prepared and shielded their sets with for the war. SAMSUNG GALAXY S8 Spring announced the launching of Samsung’s Galaxy S8. It has yet to be seen though whether it will trump the soon to be uncovered iPhone 8 or not. One is bound to be amazed and impressed by Galaxy S8 even if you are an iPhone user. All that Samsung has bragged about is packed into a dazzling curved-glass shell with an edge-to-edge infinity Display. expertreviews.co.uk The Galaxy S8 is said to present an all-new design that is abandoning the physical home button. The screen stretches across 5.8 inches area. Work on the virtual assistant, Bixby, is underway. DESIGN The Samsung Galaxy S8 is established as the Infinity Display. It bears little resemblance to the previous year’s Galaxy S7. In an effort to reduce the bezel size from both above and below the display, the home button has been pushed aside. Along with other contextual keys, it now resides virtually inside the handset’s software. The fingerprint sensor is now moved to the back of the device adjacent to the camera. The elegant DeX dock enables the S8 to turn into a mini desktop PC. The Snapdragon 835 is installed finally in Galaxy S8 making it currently the faster smartphone. It is power efficient and justifies the strong battery. A fall of few feets such as 3-foot would do no damage to the screen....

Could iPad Pro Replace My MacBook Pro?

I was on vacation recently I had time to mess around with iPad options and I was thinking could use an iPad Pro to replace my MacBook Pro. My first thought was why not try this to save money as iPad Pro is $899 and a new MacBook Pro can range from $1500 -$2500. I started looking at what I do with my MacBook Pro daily I surf the web, listen to Spotify, use Office365, Email, Gimp, Facetime, and exec. The iPad Pro has Apples huge app store I should be able to just adjust my workflow from a PC to Tablet so I figured this would be an easy switch. I could actually see cost savings in my head.  I started looking at the size of iPads first before anything. The iPad mini was too small for me to use every day when you are used to a 15-inch MacBook Pro screen.  I checked out the regular iPad and liked it but decided on iPad Pro because of the size and keyboard. The one thing I will say is the iPad Mini is a great size for content consumption but too small to be my everyday driver for the eight to ten hours I work a day. The iPad Pro was great for me as the size was fine for my eyes but I found it a bit big to be sitting in bed watching movies on every day but again it was for work primarily. I do think Apple was right with the size of the original iPad it’s the perfect size for both work and play. I could see the iPad Pro as a replacement for writers, salesmen, and office workers as out of the box the iPad Pro has by far a large enough app echo system for everything those people would need to work on daily basis.  Office365 on iPad Pro worked great I did find the keyboard kind small at times for distance typing but a basic Bluetooth keyboard could fix...
