Tip #1: Look for the Resources That Takes More Power on Mac

There are some applications that you have on your Mac that is actually taking up a lot of power from your device. And because of these applications, it can cause your Mac to slow down on its performance. So, for you to be able to find these apps that taking over your Mac, all you need to do is to access your Activity Monitor.

The Activity Monitor tool that you have on your Mac will give you details about your device. This includes your CPU, Memory, Energy, Disk, and your Network usage. Once that you are experiencing that your Mac is running slow, you can go ahead and check straight on your CPU tab. This way, you will be able to see which processes actually have a great effect on your Mac.

Tip #2: Get Ahead with Your Startup Items

As you all know, once that your Mac starts to boot up, it also starts some application in the background. Some of these startup items are actually the ones that you need, and some of which you don’t. Now, since that your Mac starts to have some extra items on its startup, it also starts to act very slow.

If this happens to you, all you need to do is go to your User and Groups and then choose your username. After that, go ahead and select Login Items and then choose all the program that you do not need on your startup. Then click on the negative “-“ sign.

Tip #3: Disable Your Visual Effects

Visual effects on Mac can make it more pleasant to the eye. However, this can also cause your Mac to run slow. So you might want to consider turning them off as well. And for you to be able to do this, all you need to do is go through your System Preferences.

Once that you are in System Preferences, go ahead and choose Dock. Then go ahead and disable “Animate opening applications”, “Automatically hide and show the Dock”. And then, go ahead and choose to Minimize windows using and have it changed to Genie effect to Scale effect.

Tip #4: Manage Your Syncing Photos to Your iCloud

There is no doubt that one of the things that are actually taking up your Mac is your photos. The same thing happens when you try to sync your photos on your iCloud. Doing this will actually require you to have more time and by that, you will start to feel that your Mac is getting slower. And clearly, even if you try to remove some of your photos on your Mac, you will still not get that speed that you want.

If this is the case, the thing that you can actually do it by turning off your iCloud Photo Library on your Mac. And in case that you want to back up some of your items to your iCloud account, then you can go ahead and use another means of backing up like Google Drive and Dropbox. Keep in mind that once that you are in control of your syncing processes to your iCloud, then this will speed up the performance on your Mac.

Tip #5: Get Your Caches Cleared

Caches are one of the culprits as to why your Mac runs slow. These are temporary files that you have on your Mac that actually speeds up some processes such as your browser. However, over the time that you are using your Mac, these caches pile up and are taking too much space on your Mac. That is why it is a good idea that you clear out these caches once in a while.

Another trick that you can do for you to speed up your Mac’s performance is by restarting your device. This way, you will be able to fix any applications that are running a little sluggish or fix those programs that are actually failing to operate on your Mac.

Once that you restart your Mac, you also restart its processes. This way, your Mac will be able to regain its speed and will perform better.

Tip #8: Change Your HDD with SSD

Replacing your Mac’s hard drive with a solid-state drive can also be considered if you want to speed up the performance of your Mac. This is because once that you replace your HDD with SSD, you will be able to boot your Mac in less time and can manage your files faster than before.
