3 Time Management Tips for Small Businesses

If you’re going to succeed in small business, you’ll have to learn how to implement solid time management tactics. Once you become a business owner, you’re going to have so many additional responsibilities on your plate that you’ll feel like you’ll never be able to get them done in a 24 hour day. Guess what? If you continue doing things the same way you’ve always done them, then you aren’t going to have enough time to take care of your responsibilities. So learning time-saving strategies is definitely the best way to improve your life, eliminate stress and overwhelm, and ultimately turn your business into a smashing success. If you’re up for it, we recommend reading the powerful time management tips we’re going to share below for small businesses. Not only should you learn them, but you should also use them to improve your livelihood as efficiently as possible by any means like using excel timesheets, becoming better prepared for the workday, and other very effective methods that we’ll tell you about right now.  Time Management Tip #1: Work on Similar Tasks in a Cluster So many people swear by the effectiveness of multitasking, but believe it or not, most people do not actually multitask. Not in the traditional sense of the word. But what many people do is accomplish many tasks quickly and in succession even though it feels like they are working on multiple things at the same time. A simple way to accomplish many tasks very close to one another is to cluster similar tasks. By organizing your day to work on similar things at the same time, you’ll be able to handle large batches of responsibility all at once and cross them off of you’re to-do list in a quick and succinct fashion. Oracle Losing Large Customers

Larry Ellison’s Oracle has been feeling the pinch as of late with the recent loss of some huge contracts. Oracle who has always been known for its database application and has centered its business around big data buying companies like Sun, Micros, MySQL, and Virtualbox. While Oracle has always competed with Microsoft and IBM lately they have been feeling the pinch losing customers to cloud-based services despite offering their own cloud services. Oracle offers services like Microsoft Azure or Amazon AWS with their latest autonomous database and NoSQL database but the services have not gotten much traction for the company outside of existing users. Many people including myself cannot understand why Oracle can’t get traction in a market they created. Oracle took a big hit when Amazon made the announcement that they plan to move off Oracle completely by 2020. Not too long after that Salesforce made an announcement that they had a long term goal to move off of Oracle. Oracle this week took a hit when Warren Buffett sold off Berkshire’s 2.1 billion dollar stake in the Oracle. Most recently Oracle lost a 10 billion dollar contract to AWS Amazon Web Services from the Pentagon. Microsoft just has landed a huge $1.76 billion cloud computing contract from the U.S. Department of Defense under which it will provide an array of services to several agencies over the next five years. Oracle using purchases, contracts and application compatibility has managed to keep many customers on their platform but I am not sure for how long. Just like IBM they have their existing users and can use acquisitions to get more customers but their core business will not see much growth unless they can get a cloud product that can attract new customers instead just moving over existing ones which is not a...

    What is Managed WordPress Hosting?

The term ‘WordPress hosting’ has been thrown around for some time now, but have you ever wondered what WordPress hosting is? Even though it might sound complicated, it’s the process of simplifying your website experience. Below, we cover what managed WordPress hosting is and why it’s something to consider, and what options are available. Let’s say you’re a new business looking to launch your products for sale on a safe, secure platform. You choose WordPress, which is one of the best, then set about making your site look pretty, desirable, and effortless for people to navigate and shop. This process could take hours and, in the meantime, you haven’t even spared a thought for the daily backups, your site’s security, its speed, the scalability, or even what you need to do if your site goes down. You might not see these things, but they are there in the background and can spell the end of your business if any one of them is not taken care of. That’s where managed WordPress hosting comes in. It’s essentially the process of outsourcing the technical aspects of your site, leaving you to focus on making your website the best-looking one around. What’s more, if you have any questions about your site, how it’s running, or how to maintain it, having someone else managing it is like having a permanent form of support there waiting in the wings. The Benefits of Managed WordPress Hosting We covered briefly the positives of having someone manage your WordPress site above, but we’ll include them in more depth here. Speed: The first standout benefit is speed. When you have someone taking over the hosting of your site, you get to enjoy lightning-fast servers that allow significant traffic through to your site. Therefore, if you have an incredible sale...
  • In a letter addressed to top executives, a group of Microsoft workers is demanding the company drop a controversial contract with the United States Army. The workers object to the company taking a $479 million contract last year to supply tech for the military’s Integrated Visual Augmentation System, or IVAS. Under the project, Microsoft, the maker of the HoloLens augmented reality headset, could eventually provide more than 100,000 headsets designed for combat and training in the military. The Army has described the project as a way to “increase lethality by enhancing the ability to detect, decide and engage before the enemy.” “We are alarmed that Microsoft is working to provide weapons technology to the US Military, helping one country’s government ‘increase lethality’ using tools we built,” the workers write in the letter, addressed to CEO Satya Nadella and president Brad Smith. “We did not sign up to develop weapons, and we demand a say in how our work is used.” The letter, which organizers say included dozens of employee signatures at publication time, argues Microsoft has “crossed the line into weapons development” with the contract. “Intent to harm is not an acceptable use of our technology,” it reads. The workers are demanding the company cancel the contract, stop developing any weapons technology, create a public policy committing to not build weapons technology, and appoint an external ethics review board to enforce the policy. While the letter notes the company has an AI ethics review process called Aether, the workers say it is “not robust enough to prevent weapons development, as the IVAS contract demonstrates.” Via The Verge
  • Apple Inc. wants to make it easier for software coders to create tools, games and other applications for its main devices in one fell swoop — an overhaul designed to encourage app development and, ultimately, boost revenue. The aim of the multistep initiative, code-named “Marzipan,” is that by 2021, developers will be able to build an app once and have it work on the iPhone, iPad and Mac computers, people familiar with the effort said. That should spur the creation of new software, increasing the utility of the company’s gadgets. Each new app is another revenue opportunity for Apple because it takes a cut of many app-related purchases and subscriptions. The company has positioned its services division as a major growth area. It plans to announce two new services — a premium Apple News subscription offering and an original video content initiative — at the end of March, Bloomberg News reported recently. Later this year, Apple plans to let developers port their iPad apps to Mac computers via a new software development kit that the company will release as early as June at its annual developer conference. Developers will still need to submit separate versions of the app to Apple’s iOS and Mac App Stores, but the new kit will mean they don’t have to write the underlying software code twice, said the people familiar with the plan. In 2020, Apple plans to expand the kit so iPhone applications can be converted into Mac apps in the same way. Apple engineers have found this challenging because iPhone screens are so much smaller than Mac computer displays. By 2021, developers will be able to merge iPhone, iPad, and Mac applications into one app or what is known as a “single binary.” This means developers won’t have to submit their work to...

    Apple TV (4th generation) Review

I recently purchased an Apple TV 4 and its been a great device so far for me as a cord cutter and movie watcher. I did not purchase the Apple TV 4K because I don’t have a 4k TV and not much content is in 4K at the current moment. I have my Xbox in the living room so I could always use that device in the future for 4K content. I must first say I have a Chromecast, Xbox, Mibox (Android TV) and a Roku. None of these devices video quality is as good as Apple TV I am not sure why but the movies I get off of iTunes just look amazing compared to the videos I watch on Play Store or off Microsoft Store. I really like the interface it reminds me of iOS and has support for almost every app I have looked for and wanted to use on the Apple TV. I love the Apple Music integration its works great and seamlessly but that is to be expected on Apple TV since its Apples platform. Even on Android TV, the integration with Google Music and YouTube Music is amazing. I would expect that tight integration from a company making the apps for their own platform. Just like everything Apple does the design and hardware quality is great and the device works on both WiFi and Ethernet. The remote feels very high quality and well made looking similar to an iPod Nano. I like how you charge the remote and don’t have to buy batteries for it that makes me very happy as I like rechargeable devices as they save money and the environment. Just like everything Apple, TVos includes Spotlight, Siri, App Store, Apple Music, Podcast App, and other Apple apps just like iOS and...
