I am a big fan of the Apple AirPods since they debuted and one the AirPods Pro came out I was even more impressed. I was so happy to get rid of that wire that used to get snagged on everything. I remember there was even a patent troll suing companies that ran the wiring of the wired earbuds through clothing.

I have had all versions of Apple’s wireless headphones version one, two, and Pros and my issue has always been are the Pros worth the extra money?

The main difference is AirPods Pro are waterproof and have noise-canceling which is not available with the regular AirPods. The AirPods Pro gives you an extra half hour of talk and listening time on a single charge Both models provide. More than 24 hours of listening time and up to 18 hours of talk time. The AirPods Pro does offer a tighter more distinct fit to help with noise cancelation.

AirPods Pro offers more music controls

  • Press once to play, pause, or answer a phone call
  • Press twice to skip forward
  • Press three times to skip back
  • Press and hold to switch between Active Noise Cancellation and Transparency mode
  • Say “Hey Siri” to do things like play a song, make a call, or get directions

The regular AirPods offer much more of a limited option for controls

  • Double-tap to play, skip forward, or answer a phone call
  • Say “Hey Siri” to do things like play a song, make a call, or get directions

The one big drawback to the AirPods Pro is the much bigger case that takes up much more room in your pocket and offers the same amount of talk and listening time. I myself feel the AirPods Pro fight tighter and after a while tire out my ears where my regular AirPods do not do this to my ear canals.

Are the AirPods Pro worth the extra $100 dollars? For me, I do not think so as I don’t care enough about noise-canceling and I am not worried about waterproofing. But if you are someone who needs noise-canceling and needs to worry about water and moisture I would say the extra $100 dollars is money well spent.
