Xbox CEO Asha Sharma teased a new partnership with Discord earlier this week. The Discord Previews account on X has new information about a new Game Pass “Starter Edition” releasing alongside a perk for Discord Nitro subscribers.
According to the X post, Game Pass Starter Edition includes access to over 50 games from the Game Pass library, 10 hours a month of Xbox Cloud Gaming streaming, and the ability to earn Xbox Rewards points.
Discord Nitro ($9.99) Subscribers can soon enjoy free access to Xbox Game Pass (Starter Edition).

Microsoft dropped the price of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass earlier in the week, but removed the new Call of Duty games’ day-one perk. This new Game Pass Starter Edition that Discord will be offering to Nitro subscribers could pave the way for similar partnerships with other companies.
Last year, there were reports that Microsoft was looking into ad-based tiers for Xbox Cloud Gaming, potentially making it even cheaper than this Starter Edition tier. It is unclear if that is still in the works or not at this point. Microsoft does seem to be looking to make Game Pass more modular and customizable to under the new regime so they can bundle it and partner with more companies.
There have been reports that Microsoft’s mobile gaming store hasn’t been abandoned yet, which could be a play for mobile carriers to bundle or sell a version of Game Pass for mobile, but at this point it’s just speculation.
