I recently upgraded my Fitbit Flex 2 for a Fitbit Charge 2. Now I know the Fitbit Charge 3 is out but I got a great price on the Fitbit Charge 2 and could not turn down the opportunity to upgrade for $89 dollar Prime Day Special for a brand new device.

The Charge 2 has one disadvantage right off the bat the Flex 2 is waterproof. Every time I take a shower I have to remove the band and lose a few steps in the process. Since Charge 2 has a screen while this is great it also makes me worry about breaking the screen from time to time as it’s more fragile than the Flex 2.

The Fitbit Charge 2 does have its advantages in being able to give you floors climbed in a day compared to Flex 2 which gives you no floors climbed. I really like the advanced sleep analytics the Charge 2 gives you telling you what stage of sleep you’re in

  • Awake
  • REM
  • Light Sleep
  • Deep Sleep

This is way better than just sleep times like you would get on the Flex 2.

I really like having a heart monitor on the Charge 2 however I am not a huge watch my heart rate person but it’s nice to have when you’re exercising to see if you are in your fat burning zone.

I do like having the screen on the Fitbit Charge 2 I find it nice to be able to see everything and not have to worry about pulling your phone out every time you want to check your daily progress and waiting for the Fitbit to sync. I have gotten used to reading text messages and looking at who is calling without pulling out my phone that is a feature I really like a lot. My only personal issue with the screen is I am afraid of it getting broken at the gym or working around the house.

One thing that makes the screen really nice is knowing how much of a charge you have on the device which is something you could not see on the display less screen or find out even in the app on the Flex 2. The only way to find out how much battery you had left was to plug the device into the charger and look at the four lights it gives.

I do like how you can start an exercise right on the band and you don’t have to pull out your smartphone or wait for the band to automatically recognize a workout. The combination of button and touchscreen on the charge really works out great I have no issues.

One thing I do think the charge does lack is the controls for music but again this is not a big issue for me as most of the time I exercise I just put on Pandora or Audible but many friends of mine at the gym have complained about the feature not being available for me it’s not a real issue.

Overall I think the Fitbit Charge 2 is a great device and I do like it much better than the Flex 2 but I still keep my flex 2 around for when I go swimming. I would recommend this device and with the added feature of waterproof probably the Fitbit Charge 3.
