  • Dropbox appears to have ended support for their official app on PCs and tablets running the Windows 8.1 operating system. The Dropbox app can no longer be installed from the Store and has stopped running when opened. While the app no longer works, it’s important to emphasise that the Dropbox desktop program can still be installed on Windows 8.1 devices and files can still be synced as usual. You can download the correct Dropbox app for your device here. Microsoft actually ended support for Windows 8.1 about six months ago so it’s not too surprising that other companies would choose to move on from the operating system as well, especially since many more users are now on Windows 10. • Ever wanted to explore Treasure Island or pretend to be Robinson Crusoe? Minecraft is now being used to create an ‘immersive experience’ to engage reluctant readers – we see how it plays out Robert Louis Stevenson’s 1881 classic Treasure Island tells of Jim Hawkins’s adventures on board the Hispaniola, as he and his crew – along with double-crossing pirate Long John Silver – set out to find Captain Flint’s missing treasure on Skeleton Island. Now, more than a century later, children can try and find it themselves, with the bays and mountains of Stevenson’s fictional island given a blocky remodelling in Minecraft, as part of a new project aimed at bringing reluctant readers to literary classics. The Guardian Microsoft has been a great ambassador for Minecraft I am very impressed by them and the work they are doing in education.
  • When you’re watching a crucial sports clash live online or on TV, the last you thing you want is for the screen to go blank. But that’s precisely what happened for soccer fans using YouTube TV to livestream the recent World Cup semi-final clash between England and Croatia. Midway through the crucial knockout game, YouTube’s coverage failed, leaving millions of people scrambling to find another way to catch the rest of the game. Keen to make up for the outage, YouTube has decided to offer subscribers at least a week’s worth of free service, Android Authority reported. It also also said that at least some of those who complained directly to customer service were told they would receive a month’s worth of credit. YouTube TV recently raised its monthly subscription to $40, so those receiving a week’s worth of credit can expect to save around $10. Digital Trends I am wondering how many people canceled their service or those that were thinking about getting the service will hold off after this bad press.
  • Microsoft today announced that it will retire “Skype Classic” for desktop (version 7.0) on September 1. In its place, all Skype users will be forced to upgrade to version 8.0 by that date to continue using Skype for dekstop. From Microsoft: As we roll out improvements, there comes a time when we must shut down older services and application versions. This is done to ensure that all customers have the best possible Skype experience, and that there are no quality or reliability issues resulting from old technology and new technology interoperating. We know change can be hard, so we’re working to make the update as simple as possible. Skype version 8.0 is revamped with several new features, and Microsoft has more planned for future releases. The new features include the ability to add reactions to messages, @mentions, and a chat media gallery. You can also now drag and drop files up to 300MB in size to share them with friends and contacts. Windows Central Microsoft working hard to make Skype a competitor with WhatsApp, Snap and Facebook Messanger I just don’t think it will happen great update I like update a lot.

Music Apps on the Apple Watch Series 3

I recently purchased an Apple Watch Series 3 to test and to my surprise, the watch does not have a native Spotify and Pandora app. Not all Apple Watch Series 3 have an LTE connection mine does because I bought it through Verizon, but this was kind of a concern to me and I will tell you why. I have been on a major fitness kick lately trying to lose weight and get healthier. I have AirPods and they are great I figured the Apple Watch would be a great companion to my Apple headphones that’s why I picked the Apple Watch. The first negative about the watch was there is NO Spotify or Pandora app on the Apple Watch Series 3. Spotify was rumored to release a WatchOS app at Apples WWDC and that never happen so the only way to stream music from my watch is to get Apple Music. On my first jog earlier, this week I went to play music and realized I had no cell service so I then offlined a bunch of playlists to my Apple Watch Series 3. To me signing up for Apple music at $9.99 month is no big deal I have a Spotify family account and it kind of stinks that I need an Apple Music Subscription, but I have MacBook Pro, iPhone 8, AirPods, iPad Mini and now Apple Watch so the $9.99 month will not be wasted. Not to mention thinking about it I buy a lot of Apple hardware but have bought little to nothing from Apple echo system besides a few apps from App Store, so I am sure this will make Tim Cook happy to read this 😉 I started looking around and this not something just Apple is doing to help get subscribers in...
