  • If you’re handed a note that asks you to draw a picture of a bird with a yellow body, black wings and a short beak, chances are you’ll start with a rough outline of a bird, then glance back at the note, see the yellow part and reach for a yellow pen to fill in the body, read the note again and reach for a black pen to draw the wings and, after a final check, shorten the beak and define it with a reflective glint. Then, for good measure, you might sketch a tree branch where the bird rests. Now, there’s a bot that can do that, too. The new artificial intelligence technology under development in Microsoft’s research labs is programmed to pay close attention to individual words when generating images from caption-like text descriptions. This deliberate focus produced a nearly three-fold boost in image quality compared to the previous state-of-the-art technique for text-to-image generation, according to results on an industry standard test reported in a research paper posted on Microsoft Microsoft betting big on the cloud and it’s paying off in a big way financially for them.
  • We launched HealthVault Insights as a research project last year, with the goal of helping patients generate new insights about their health. Since then, we’ve learned a lot about how machine learning can be used to increase patient engagement and are now applying that knowledge to other projects. As part of this progression, we’ve made the decision to remove HealthVault Insights from the iOS, Android and Windows stores effective later this month. This change will have no impact on the data users generated in HealthVault Insights, which will continue be accessible via the HealthVault website.  Microsoft
  • At the end of last year, the Linux desktop scored a huge win when Spotify became available as a Snap. If you aren’t familiar with Snaps, please know that they are essentially software packages designed to run as a container on any Linux distro. Not only does it make installing software packages easier for users, but it makes things simpler for developers too. Ultimately, Snaps have the potential to solve the big fragmentation problem in the Linux desktop community. Today, yet another wildly popular program gets the Snap treatment, and quite frankly, it is arguably more significant than Spotify. What is it? Slack! Yes, Canonical announces that the ubiquitous communication app can be installed as a Snap. True, Slack was already available on the Linux desktop, but this makes installing it and keeping it updated much easier. Beta News Slack knows a lot Linux guys like to chat IRC and Linux go hand in hand. Slacks trying to draw some of that community over to Slack and get some market share since there are so many Linux Slack Chatrooms.
  • Microsoft is promoting its Minecraft boss to the head of the company’s games studios. Matt Booty’s new role sees him oversee Microsoft Studios, second only to Microsoft’s games chief Phil Spencer. Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella previously promoted Phil Spencer from head of Xbox to a new role overseeing all games, associated hardware, and game strategy. Spencer reports directly to Nadella, with Booty now reporting directly to Spencer. Both changes are designed to improve Microsoft’s games business. Microsoft has struggled to produce first-party games for its Xbox One console over the past year, after canceling Scalebound, Fable Legends, and Ion The Verge I really hope Microsoft steps up their game I would hate to see Xbox fall behind its great game system.

    Smart Buildings and Green Technology

The green technology involves methods, materials, and techniques that are used for producing energy in an environmentally friendly way.  The field has also intertwined with business establishments that are, lately,  incorporating sustainable factor more and more.  According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics report in 2011, approximately 3/4 of business organizations in the United States claimed they used at least one green technology. Most of those were energy efficient measures that guarantee energy savings (57 percent) and those minimizing waste production (55 percent). Intensive climate changes have brought outstanding attention to green technology with an emphasis on sustainable building. Smart building How sustainable building includes intelligent structures Sustainable building is a building concept that inevitably includes efficiency of resources and eco-friendly design and building process. Smart building philosophy fits that idea; it is a structure that is fully automated and monitors/controls operations in building such as heating, air conditioning, lighting, ventilation and other systems that use power.  Intelligent buildings utilize sensors to gather data about the activities taking place inside the structure and manage them according to property’s function and needs. This smart infrastructure helps reduce excessive energy consumption, maximizes space usage and minimizes the harmful environmental impact of the building. Roughly speaking, smart buildings increase the productivity of residents with lower energy costs, higher life quality and reduced environmental footprint. There is a significant difference between conventional construction methods and smart ones. The main thing which distinguishes them is dynamism; conventional buildings are static and primarily serve as shelters while smart buildings perform as dynamic systems that focus on continually improving life quality. Composition of smart buildings; materials contributing to sustainability Advancement of green technology brought us closer to sci-fi architecture. Smart buildings use sustainable, intelligent materials that do not only last long but are also durable and...
  • Internet connections get slow because of some common causes which may be caused because of the broadband router configuration errors, wireless interface or some other technical issue in the home network. Comparoid reviewed bring you some tips to diagnose and also fix slow internet connections and some basic ways of troubleshooting the internet connection. Check your broadband router settings– The broadband router is the centrepiece of the internet network which can be solely responsible for the slow network internet connections. It is possible that it has not been configured properly. The MTU settings of the router may lead to speed issues if it is set too high or too low. It is very important to ensure that all the settings done by the manufacturers and internet service provider are consistent. Changes that you make on the router configuration should be recorded carefully so that you can undo them if required. Avoid wireless signal interference– The Wi-Fi performance may be slow because of signal interference. This requires the computers to send messages to overcome the signal issues.  A neighbor WiFi signal or a household appliance may cause an interference. You need to reposition the router if the internet connection goes slowly because of signal interference. Beware of internet worms– A software program that spreads from device to device through a computer network is called an internet worm. This worm generates network traffic without your knowledge and causes the internet connection to run slow. The anti-virus program of your computer should be kept up to date to catch and remove these worms from your device. Stop network applications running in the background– Some applications installed on a computer quietly consume network resources. These applications are installed to do useful work rather than harm the data and device like worms do. Games and programs...
