  • Satya Nadella is the third CEO (Chief Operating Officer) in Microsoft’s 42 years of operation. Bill Gates served as CEO for 35 years then Steve Ballmer took over then in 2014 Satya Nadella took over and had to reinvent the company.  Satya Nadella new book Hit Refresh: The Quest to Rediscover Microsoft’s Soul and Imagine a Better Future for Everyone goes into depth of how he turned Microsoft around from losing the mobile market to being a huge cloud company with a new vision. Bill Gates does provide Forewords which are very good as well. Satya Nadella really gets into his personal life talking about coming to America meeting his wife and having his children. He talks about his love of the game cricket. He talks about starting at Microsoft and about being a salesman than to working on Windows NT and building Bing. Satya Nadella talks about Microsoft losing the mobile market and making a bad purchase in the Nokia.  Satya Nadella talks about Azure and creating cloud-based services and moving products like Microsoft Office to the cloud and taking Microsoft subscription based in the cloud. He gets into competing with Amazon’s AWS infrastructure.   Satya Nadella talks about Microsoft security and trust with customers data and uptime guarantees. Nadella talks about working with Apple and changing company culture to work with companies to bring Microsoft to their platforms. He talks about bring Microsoft Office to Apple’s iOS and Googles Android. Nadella talks about partnering with companies that Microsoft used to compete with and changing Microsofts company mentality to a software and services company.  Satya Nadella goes on to explain that the companies mission statement was outdated to say a computer on every desk has already happened and the company needed a more modern mission statement and goal to strive four in the changing landscape of computing. This was a great book I would strongly recommend it to anyone interested in Microsoft’s new visions and strategies. This book is also...
  • Goals. For some people goal setting is difficult. You can think of about a million things that you would rather spend your time on, other than setting goals. After all, you’ve got a business to run, right? The thing is, trying to build a business without goals is like trying to drive to a specific destination, in an unfamiliar town, without a GPS device, map, or directions. You’re bound to make a wrong turn somewhere. Goals aren’t always set in stone, but they do serve as guideposts along the journey of building your business. If you don’t have goals in place, you may reach a point where you’ve deviated from the original reason that you started the business-and going back and fixing things may well take a lot of time and effort. When you’re setting goals, it’s sometimes hard to know where to start. Here’s a list of questions to help you develop your business goals: Why are you starting this business? While the easy answer is “to make money,” there’s a particular reason that you chose the business you chose. I chose to start a copywriting business because I love writing. I wouldn’t choose a business that involved selling jewelry, because I rarely wear jewelry. So, my answer to this question would be “I started a copywriting business because I enjoy writing, and want to be able to help people who either don’t have time, or don’t feel like they’re great writers, to tell their stories.” How much money do you have to invest? For some folks, that number is going to be $0, and that’s absolutely okay. But you need to go in to your business with a firm number, so that you’re adequately prepared when opportunities to invest in your business come up. Initially, I built my...
  • Google’s Pixel 2 XL has a lot of great attributes, but the lack of proper quality control on a lot of units is what’s causing issues for users. Display issues aside, though, another strange issue has popped up — some users are reporting that their Pixel 2 XLs are arriving without a crucial element: Android. Multiple reports on Reddit, one as recent as last night, show users who are receiving brand new Pixel 2 XLs, just missing Android. Upon first boot, the device simply says that it “can’t find valid operating system” and can’t go any further. Unfortunately, there’s no easy way to get the OS installed on these devices once in the customer’s hands, so the only method to fix this is to replace the device, which Google is thankfully doing. If you’re running into the problem, you can start a claim with Google here. 9to5Google I have feeling Google rushed this product to beat Apple to market and its causing them some issues.
  • YouTube Kids, the video app for kids ages 12 and under, will receive a new look through an update available Thursday, as well as features including individual profiles. Along with customizable profiles, the app for Android and iOS will include a fresh, more kid-friendly look that will adapt depending on the child’s age. “We’ve heard very clearly that personalization is a key part that makes the app so delightful,” said James Beser, product manager for the YouTube Kids app. YouTube Kids is a version of YouTube featuring videos specifically for children. Since launching for both iOS and Android platforms in February 2015, users have logged more than 70 billion views within YouTube Kids. The app boasts 11 million weekly active users. Overall, YouTube has more than 1 billion users. USA Today YouTube is being very aggressive with there apps and services they are really doing a great job.
  • Protecting all Google users from viruses, malware, and other abusive content is central to user cyber-safety and sometimes we remove access to certain files in order to provide these protections. On Tuesday, October 31, we mistakenly blocked access to some of our users’ files, including Google Docs. This was due to a short-lived bug that incorrectly flagged some files as violating our terms of service (TOS). The blocking raised questions in the community and we would like to address those questions here. The Google Docs and Drive products have unparalleled automatic, preventive security precautions in place to protect our users from malware, phishing and spam, using both static and dynamic antivirus techniques. Virus and malware scanning is an industry best practice that performs automated comparisons against known samples and indicators; the process does not involve human intervention. Google Google has had a few issues over the last year with Google drive I really hope this is not a downward spiral.
