  • Alphabet Inc. has informed users of its Google Finance product last week that the core of the offering, the portfolio feature, will soon disappear as the stocks-focused product undergoes a transformation that bundles it into Google’s dominant search offering. The November move will mark the first major change to a languishing product that has existed since 2006 but hasn’t seen an overhaul in more than eight years. To replace the outgoing features, Google said that it plans to migrate users’ portfolios to Google’s search product, which will aim to analyze users’ interests and provide a report for users. MarketWatch I don’t really use this much but I know a lot of people that do daily. This always felt like the leftovers of iGoogle that someone forgot about it looked dated.

SEO Insider: Are you doing it right?

Would you like to triumph in your next SEO campaign? Every ambitious marketer knows that it is essential to increase your search rankings if you want to make your product or a service visible to your target audience. One of the ways to achieve this is to have strategic, content-focused techniques. Instead of looking for workarounds and managing your SEO yourself, you need to focus your energy into developing a precise and effective strategy on how to optimize your website. Getting users to visit your page and interact with your content will significantly increase your website ranking and trigger many shares on social platforms. However, due to the ever-changing Google’s algorithm, using keywords to get visitors to click through to your site is simply not enough. While there is no secret formula on how to improve your SEO, there are some essential steps you need to take if you want your SEO to succeed. 1.  Create useful and vibrant content The easiest way to draw your reader’s’ attention and increase visits on your site is to create dynamic and vibrant content that your readers would really like to read. However, nobody will read your content unless it is useful and if it doesn’t provide some true actionable tips about, for example, project planning that can solve real problems. Also if visitors like your content they will bookmark it which will automatically improve SEO ranking of your website in Google. 2.  Optimise on-site elements Meta descriptions and title tags provide a perfect place to put some marketing talent to use. • In the face of rampant negative feedback for its new Skype mobile client, Microsoft today unveiled an update on iOS that addresses many concerns. “[The new Skype] was a big change and we received a lot of great feedback from the Skype community,” Microsoft’s Ellen Kilbourne explains. “We want you to know we’ve been listening. We’re committed to providing you with an amazing experience and appreciate the time you’ve taken to share your thoughts.” Microsoft unveiled the new Skype back in June, with the first versions shipped on Android and iOS. But the reaction was so negative, that the firm has since stepped back from its plans to bring the new UI to Windows and Mac. And it quickly reached out to the userbase to find out what they can do to make things right. The changes it is highlighting this week are a preview only, meaning that they are only available tothose in the Skype Insiders Program, and then only on iOS. Assuming this goes well, they will be rolled out more broadly in the future. Thurrott I am glad Microsoft is changing the new design everyone I talked to hates the new Skype look and feel.
  • Apple Music still isn’t topping the charts — but now it’s half as big as Spotify when it comes to official subscribers. Jimmy Iovine, the boss of Apple’s music-streaming service, revealed to Billboard magazine Thursday that it now has 30 million paid subscribers. That’s a 3 million increase since it reported numbers in June, having launched in early 2015. Meanwhile, eight-year-old Spotify, the world’s biggest music streamer, announced in July that it has 60 million paying subscribers, up from 50 million in March. At those rates, Apple Music appears to be limping in the race, having taken since last December to add its latest 10 million subscribers. Sweden-based Spotify’s value in private markets reportedly reached $16 billion this week, up from $13 billion in June, as it gears up to go public next year. Indeed, Spotify lately has landed a few hits at the expense of Apple Music. NYPost Apple Music is great I like the service but I think Spotify is better.
